World Archery threatens to bar Archery Association of India

World Archery (WA) said it will immediately suspend the Archery Association of India (AAI) if the two factions go ahead with different elections in Delhi and Chandigarh on June 9.

At loggerheads again

After the Supreme Court set aside the AAI’s new constitution, struck down its elections and ordered a fresh one, the two factions have been at loggerheads again.
WA and World Archery Asia (WAA) have expressed strong reservations over the announcement of two elections.
“Not only does this contravene any type of good governance (sic), it is simply violating any democratic rule since not all officially mandated delegates can be in two locations at the same time. It is, therefore, both WA and WAA’s position that should (sic) such dual election take place, the results will not be recognised for either election by WA,” said WA secretary-general Tom Dielen in a communication.
“It is clear that (sic) certain different interpretations on who is supposed to organise the elections from the Hon. Supreme Court decision led to this situation.”
WA said in case the AAI got suspended for dual elections, “the Indian team competing in the World Championships would only be able to compete under a WA flag and not the Indian flag.”
WA and WAA have appointed WAA vice-president Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol as the mediator, suggesting that he “try to meet the parties” on June 7 in New Delhi. “The purpose of this meeting would be to cancel both elections and hold a new one on June 24.”
WA expected both factions to respect the outcome of the unified election and “commit to a gentlemen’s agreement that they will not challenge the decision” in court.
