The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday questioned former Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel further in connection with alleged irregularities in the purchase of 43 Airbus aircraft and sharing of Air India’s profitable routes with international airlines during the UPA regime.
Mr. Panel’s statement was also recorded on Monday. The Directorate summoned him to join the probe, following the questioning of several Air India and Civil Aviation officials who were part of the process for finalising the agreements.
The ED has also interrogated lobbyist Deepak Talwar, who has been accused of having received about ₹272 crore from Emirates, Air Arabia and Qatar airlines for getting them favourable seat sharing arrangements on the national carrier’s profitable routes.
In the charge sheet filed against Mr. Talwar, the ED has alleged that he was a friend of the former Civil Aviation Minister.
