The woman has been identified as Rangoli Patel, a resident of Malad West in Mumbai
Calangute police in North coastal beach belt on Tuesday arrested a 23-year-old woman from Mumbai for making a hoax call alleging that there is a bomb in a popular local restaurant, following a dispute with the waiter.
Calangute police Inspector Jivba Dalvi gave the name of the woman as Rangoli Patel, a resident of Malad West in Mumbai. She was holidaying in Goa.
“The accused has confessed that she had made a hoax call to make the restaurant management suffer losses by shutting it down as she and her friend had an argument with a waiter,” Mr. Dalvi said.
The accused has been booked under sections 182 (false information), 505(1)(b) (incite to commit an offence) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Mr. Dalvi said that following the hoax call, the restaurant had to be hurriedly evacuated resulting in a panic situation among the public and the management.
"The quick reaction team of the Anti-Terrorist Squad also was called at the spot. Their search of the premise revealed that the call was a hoax," the Police Inspector said.
The caller was identified based on the subscriber details and a search of the area surrounding the hotel.
