A MiG-27 UPG fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on a routine mission crashed in Jodhpur on Monday morning. The pilot ejected safely.
The Mig-27 was airborne from Utarlai Air Force station and crashed around 11:45 a.m., 120 kms south of Jodhpur, an IAF officer said.
“The pilot had reported engine problems before ejecting safely. Preliminary reports indicate no loss of property or life on ground,” he added. A court of Inquiry will investigate the cause of accident.
There have been a series of accidents involving the Mig-27 aircraft in this financial year. The last of the Russian origin jets are in the process of being phased out.
Last month, a Mig-27 which took off on a training mission from Jaisalmer crashed near Pokhran range in Rajasthan. In September 2018, another Mig-27 crashed in an open area in Deolia Kalan village in Jodhpur district. The pilots had ejected safely in both the instances.
