Milind Deora replaces Sanjay Nirupam as Mumbai Congress president

Sanjay Nirupam is declared as the party candidate from Mumbai North West

In a bitter-sweet moment for Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam on Monday, he was declared as the party candidate from Mumbai North West constituency but was removed from the Mumbai Congress chief post. Milind Deora will be the new Mumbai party president.
Mr. Deora, Lok Sabha candidate from Mumbai south for the Congress, had recently raised concerns about the direction in which the city’s party unit was moving. A slew of leaders had held a meeting with party leaders in Delhi to complain against Mr. Nirupam and his style of functioning.
In a press statement Mr. Deora thanked Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for “trusting him” to lead.
“I appeal to all leaders and workers to work unitedly defending and furthering party ideals. The city of Mumbai needs politics of inclusive development. In my tenure I will focus on holistic development, with a focus on housing for all, protection to small and medium enterprises and enriching social and communal harmony,” Mr. Deora said.
