Four of a family from Theni killed in bus-auto collision




In another incident, two persons were killed when a van knocked down their two-wheeler



Four persons of a family from Theni were killed when the auto in which they were travelling was hit by a speeding TNSTC bus here on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as K. Sendrayan (47), his wife Sudha (35), their son Manikandan (9) and daughter Abinaya (7).
The police said that the family, along with Sendrayan's mother-in-law, Pandiammal, were proceeding to Nallathevanpatti near Usilampatti in Madurai to worship their family deity on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.
When their auto was near Kondamanaickkenpatti, the auto driver P. Ramu, attempted to overtake another vehicle. The auto then came to the middle of the carriage way, when the driver noticed a TNSTC bus speeding towards them.
The driver applied the brakes and within seconds the auto was hit by the bus. While three of them died on the spot, the girl died on the way to the hospital.
The elderly woman is under treatment at Theni Medical College hospital. The driver, Ramu, escaped with minor injuries.
The Andipatti police are investigating.
Two killed in Dindigul district
In another incident, two persons, S. Murugan (47) and R. Suresh (35) of Milagaipatti near Nilakottai were killed when a van knocked down the two-wheeler on which they were riding on Nilakottai-Sempatti Road in Dindigul district on Monday.
The police said that both were killed on the spot at around 5.30 p.m. They were proceeding to Aravakurichi in Karur district to offer prayers at a temple. The Sempatti police are investigating.
