It congratulates Narendra Modi and Amit Shah on their emphatic election victory
Hoping for an inclusive and peaceful new India, the Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI), a body representing 19.9 million Catholics and the largest bishops’ conference in Asia, has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP and party president Amit Shah on their emphatic election victory.
The Church said it hopes, prays and is willing to work together “for a new India which enjoys peace and prosperity and continues to make progress’’.
President CBCI Oswald Cardinal Gracias in his letter said: “We pray that God gives you health, wisdom and strength to carry out the great responsibilities entrusted to you.’’
The letter said the Church was “eager to work together for the vision of a new India which gives hope and energy to our youth, empowers our women especially in rural areas, opens new and sustainable opportunities for our farmers and strengthens our economy while leaving no one behind.’’
Saying the people had given a clear mandate for a stable and effective government, he assured the PM of the “prayers and best wishes for leading the country in building a strong and inclusive India’’.
