Delhi Capitals is a really strong side, said Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Moody.
Mohammad Kaif termed as “unfair” the practice of the teams replacing poor fielders with good substitutes in the ongoing IPL.
Speaking to mediapersons in New Delhi on Wednesday, the Delhi Capitals Assistant coach cited examples of Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab in their matches against Delhi Capitals to assert his point.
“In our match against KKR, Piyush Chawla went out and Rinku Singh came in to field. In that, they may be planning that good fielders stay in the field, and whoever is slow in fielding goes out. Similarly, Kings XI Punjab’s Sarfaraz Khan went out saying that he was injured and didn’t come out to field. I felt the ball had hit the gloves. (Karun) Nair, who came on to field, took a good catch (to dismiss Ingram). These are small things but teams are trying to be smart and making these kind of changes — these are obviously not right,” said Kaif, once known for his fielding skills.
Asked about how Delhi Capitals could outsmart Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, Kaif said, “All the (Sunrisers) players haven’t got the chance to get going. Sometimes, it’s not really good for the team. We are looking at getting their heavy top-order early and see how it goes from there Like I said, the Nos. 3, 4, 5, 6 haven’t got much of a chance to bat. Probably, that area we can exploit.”
On his part, Sunrisers’ coach Tom Moody was candid, “What Delhi has done or hasn’t done in its previous game or games is not really relevant to us. What’s relevant to us is, matching up the best we can against the opponent we’ve got a lot of respect for. We really feel Delhi is a really strong side.
“And there’s a challenge of different conditions. Playing here in Delhi, the adjustments you need to do with bat and ball that are important to be effective. Our focus is very much around that.”
