56,000 outlets to pay respects
As a mark of respect to the 44 soldiers who were martyred at Pulwama, 56,000 fuel outlets across the country, that are affiliated to the Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers (CIPD), will close their bunks for 20 minutes from 7 p.m. on Wednesday
In a press release, K. Suresh Kumar, CIPD general secretary (in-charge), said banners with photographs of the martyrs would be placed in the fuel outlets and lights would be turned off during the time.
Motorists could tank up either before or after that duration of respect, he said.
Sikhs to pay homage
In Chennai, the Sikh community will organise a 48-hour-long Akhand Path Sahib (continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib) from 8 a.m. on Friday at the Gurudwara on G.N. Chetty Road, T. Nagar. Amandeep Singh Khandari, Chennai Gurudwara Management Committee, said on Sunday morning after the culmination of the Akhand Path Sahib, an Antim Ardas (memorial prayer) would be held. This would be followed by langar (community lunch).
